WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN COLLEGE - FLEMING HALL
Buckhannon WV
West Virginia Wesleyan College needed to upgrade Fleming Hall. The original dormitory, built in 1949 had 208 beds, mostly in 2-bed rooms. Each floor had large gang toilet and shower areas and there was one laundry room in the basement. A single community room on the first floor was the central place for socializing.
The Arctecon team faced two challenges. First, while the building shell was good, all of the MEP systems were obsolete and in disrepair, and needed to be upgraded. Second, the renovation had to offer the modern amenities that college students expect today, and maximum privacy to students, while optimizing the number of beds.
The new Fleming Hall will have 146 beds, in suites of two, 2-bedroom units with a central shared toilet and shower. The building will be air conditioned - important with West Virginia’s hot summers. Each floor of the building has a laundry and a lounge area. There is now elevator access to all floors so the building is fully handicapped accessible.
Construction is scheduled to be completed in August, 2009 – just in time for the new school year. |
